Walter W. Smith, 90, formerly of Chapmans, quietly passed away at Gracedale Nursing Home on Thursday, December 28, 2023.
Born in Upper Nazareth Township, he was a son of the late William A. and Theresa
F. (Pflugler) Smith. Walter worked in the slate quarry in Chapman Quarries, and as a roofer for H.W. Kocher also of Chapmans. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ of Moorestown, as well as a member of Manoquesy Lodge No. 413 F. & A.M., Bath. Walter was a life member of East Bath and Kunkletown Rod & Gun Clubs and was a steady participant in their block shoots in the fall. One of his favorite pastimes was hunting, especially turkeys and ruffed grouse. He was also very adept at building hand-crafted muzzleloaders. Walter enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycles and he always looked forward to setting up his old Lionel train under the Christmas tree every year.
Walter will be sorely missed by his family and all who knew him including his brother, Melvin Smith and wife, Pat, of Bath; along with nieces and nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lillian H. Schaffer, who died in December 2022.
