Curtis D. Leighton, 58, formerly of Towner, North Dakota, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Mount Vernon, Kentucky on Thursday, April 27, 2023.  Born in East Stroudsburg, he was a son of Dawn M. (Miller) Leighton of Moore Township, and the late Kenneth W. Leighton.  Curtis was a 1982 graduate of George Junior Republic School in Freeville, New York.  Known for being a jack of all trades, Curtis was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for most of his career.  A talented musician, he enjoyed playing banjo and guitar, and he loved bluegrass music and riding his Harley.

Survivors: In addition to his loving mother, Dawn, he will be deeply missed by his wife of 30 years, Linda Hampton, with whom he resided; four children, Sarah Leighton and husband, Chris Bastardo, of New York, Jessica Leighton of Milwaukee, WI, Samuel Leighton of Towner, North Dakota, and Bobbi Jean Leighton of Virginia; nine grandchildren; a brother, Troy Leighton and wife, Christine, of Wind Gap; a half-brother, Mark Tomsic of Mount Pocono; a half-sister, Theresa Tomsic of Moore Township; a former wife, Merrie Schmidt of Towner, North Dakota; along with nieces and nephews.  Curtis was predeceased by a granddaughter, Nickalle Leighton.

Services: Private and at the convenience of the family.  There will be no calling hours.  Arrangements are under the care and direction of the GEORGE G. BENSING FUNERAL HOME, LLC, in the Village of Moorestown – Bath.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to Curtis’ family in care of the funeral home.
