Samuel R. Shindle, Jr., of Bushkill Twp., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in his residence. He was 86 years old. Born on November 6, 1939, in Waynesboro, PA, Sam was the son of the late Samuel R., Sr. and Janet B. (Fisher) Shindle.

Sam served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1968. He was a member of the 94th Engineer Battalion, and he loved sharing his many fond memories of his time spent overseas in Germany. Following his time in the army, Sam worked 30 years as a machinist at Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, Maryland. In his spare time and after retirement he followed his true passion of growing his garden and running his family business, Upton Greenhouse. While he loved the outdoors, his favorite place to be was with his grandkids and dog, Molly. Known for his wacky sense of humor, amazing music taste, and love for reading Sam always brought joy and laughter to those around him.

Sam is survived by his children, Mark Shindle and his wife Kellie of Upton, PA, Vicki Smith and her husband Jerry of Wind Gap, PA, Lance Shindle of Chambersburg, PA; grandchildren, Laura (Nick) Cathell, Kyle (McKenzie) Shindle, Kelsie Hensley, Jerry Jr., Kelly, and Kara Smith, great-grandchildren: Leah, Ryan, and William; one brother, two sisters, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services for Sam will take place privately at the convenience of the family and interment with Military Honors at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle, PA.
