Mary Ellen Hughes

Mary Ellen Hughes, 92, of Plainfield Township, formerly of Pen Argyl and Hellertown, peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

Born in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late Cletus H. Lutz, Sr. and Nellie M. (Foster) Martocci, and stepdaughter of the late Leonard Martocci.

A member of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, Mary Ellen worked in the garment industry for 50 years before retiring in 2014 from A & H Sportswear in Stockertown.  She was a voracious reader and enjoyed solving word search puzzles.

Survivors: In addition to her loving nephew, Stewart R.J. “Skip” Marsh, with whom she resided, she is survived by nieces and nephews; and cousins.  Mary Ellen was predeceased by a brother, Cletus H. Lutz, Jr.; and two sisters, Joan E. Marsh and Mildred M. Hinton.

Services: Private and at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements are under the care and direction of the GEORGE G. BENSING FUNERAL HOME, LLC, in the Village of Moorestown – Bath.

Contributions: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to St. Luke’s Hospice House, Development Office, 801 Ostrum Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
