Leonard D. Miltenberger, 91, of Bethlehem, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his daughters on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in his residence. He was the beloved husband of the late Beatrice Miltenberger (Kocher) to whom he was married to for 42 years before her passing in 1999. Born in Bethlehem, Leonard was a son of the late Walter and Hattie Miltenberger (Mills).
He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and found great enjoyment in hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed playing the banjo and listening to many types of music. He was extremely handy and could build and repair most anything.
Leonard shared the story of a life shaped by resilience, hard work, and devotion to his family. He often spoke of his youth, and how his parents moved 36 times over the course of their 65 years of marriage. He enjoyed taking car rides with his daughters to revisit many of the neighborhoods of his youth.
A graduate of Nazareth High School, Leonard began working at Bethlehem Contracting Company shortly thereafter, dedicating 20 years to the trade. He later continued his working career at Martin Guitar Factory for 8 years. Following a lay-off, he pursued a new path, taking courses in sewing machine repair and becoming self-employed. He developed a remarkable talent and passion within the sewing industry. For 16 years, he operated Leonard's Sewing Center, a sewing machine sales and repair business, originally located in Bath, and later moving the business to Bethlehem.
With his wife, Bea serving as his full-time partner for much of that time, they won many top sales awards from popular industrial machine manufacturers such as Viking, Husqvarna, and Bernina. Together they became a familiar and trusted presence to many in the sewing community.
When Bea was diagnosed with cancer in June of 1997, Leonard stepped away from his business, closing it in June of 1998 to care for her. He remained by her side throughout her illness, a reflection of the deep love and commitment they shared. Bea passed away at home on January 27, 1999, a loss Leonard considered the most profound of his life, as he often said the most significant person in his life was his beloved wife.
He will be dearly missed by his daughters: Deborah Miltenberger (Thomas Bluder) of Bethlehem and Susan Baltz of Nazareth; grandsons: Zachary Baltz and Tyler Baltz; two great grandsons: Eamon and Sean; sister Margaret Toth of Bethlehem; many nieces and nephews. Leonard was predeceased by brothers: Richard Miltenberger, Walter Miltenberger, Ray Miltenberger, Sherwood Miltenberger.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, April 13, 2026 in the Emmanuel's Lutheran Church - 3175 Valley View Drive Bath, PA 18014.
