Lawrence Augustine Walsh, 89, of Upper Nazareth Twp., PA, formerly of Toms River, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2025 at his residence while surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Maria Walsh (Müller) to whom he was married for 56 years. Born in the Bronx, Lawrence was the son of the late Lawrence Walsh and Josephine Walsh (Carroll).
A proud veteran, Larry began his military career in the United States Navy. He later joined the Marines and subsequently served in the Air Force Reserves as a loadmaster during the Vietnam Era, spending much of his Air Force career in Japan. Throughout his time in the military, he exemplified courage, humility and commitment that garnered the respect and admiration of his fellow servicemen and women. Following a distinguished military career, Larry went on to serve as a New York City Police Officer, where he was injured in the line of duty. Following his time with the NYPD, he enjoyed a lengthy career in administration with AT&T before his retirement.
He was a passionate skydiver who embraced both the adrenaline of freefall and the calm serenity found high above the earth. With countless jumps to his name, he found true freedom in the open sky.
He was a devoted member of Our Lady of the Lake Roman Catholic Church in Sparta, NJ, and later St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Toms River, NJ where he faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Larry had a lifelong passion for aviation and was fascinated by anything related to planes. A true Jeopardy whiz, he could get an answer correct even while “resting his eyes” on the couch. He was a classic film enthusiast and also found joy at the beach as well as in the water, swimming and sailing. He had a passion for travel and was always seeking opportunities to learn about the rich history of the places he visited in both his professional career along with his devoted wife Maria. Above all, he loved sharing stories, captivating those around him with his wit, humor, and rich life experiences.
In addition to his wife, he will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Karin Walsh-Wyatt and husband Conrad Wyatt of Nazareth, daughter Christine Sherman and husband Matthew Sherman of Thornwood, NY; as well as his grandchildren: Kelsey, Kaia, Anna, Thomas and Olivia, who knew him as “Opa.” Lawrence was predeceased by a sister: Ellen Nettuno (wife of Hugo Nettuno) also of the Bronx, NY.
