Joseph F. Mazzie, Jr. 79, of Bushkill Twp., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, May 29, 2026 at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Gloria (Bianchi-Lurati) Mazzie, to whom he would have been married to for 57 years this July 26. Born in Belfast, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph and Edna Mazzie (Pittenger).A lifelong outdoorsman, he was happiest with a fly rod in hand, a bird dog at his side, or surrounded by family and friends sharing stories of the day's adventures. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, including service in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive of 1968, a pivotal and challenging chapter in American military history. Professionally, he dedicated many years of his career as a Controller and Accountant for Structural Slate Company in Pen Argyl, where he was respected for his dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic. In his younger years, he also enjoyed working at Quarry Supply, a local sporting goods store that allowed him to share his enthusiasm for the outdoors with others.
An avid catch-and-release fly fisherman, he was a proud member of the Blakeslee Fly Fishing Club and Trout Unlimited, reflecting both his love of fishing and his commitment to preserving the sport for future generations. A devoted member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, he also enjoyed upland bird hunting with his treasured German Shorthaired Pointers, pursuing pheasants and other game birds across fields and woodlands. Whether in the stream, the church, the office, or the outdoors he loved so much, he lived with an appreciation for nature, fellowship, hard work, and tradition. In addition to his wife, Joseph will be lovingly remembered by his children: Joseph F. Mazzie, III (Lisa) of Pennsburg and Jenelle Dalfior (Fernando) of Lexington, MA; grandchildren: Brandon, Kyle, Evan and Brianna; niece: Cheryl Maloney (Tom) of Monroeton, and nephew: Gary Bartholomew (Jacqueline). Joe is predeceased by a sister: Mary "Dolly" Bartholomew & nephew: Brian Bartholomew.
