Magisterial District Justice and devoted public servant, Douglas H. Schlegel, Sr., 66, of Bushkill Township, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 15, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital - Allentown Campus. He was the loving husband of Tracy A. (Hollinger) Schlegel. The couple would have celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on September 24.
Doug was born in Allentown and grew up in Towanda, Bradford County, a son of the late Warren G. and Janice (Lazenby) Schlegel. He was a graduate of Towanda High School, class of 1977, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he earned a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice. Prior to joining the court and serving two successful terms as a District Justice, Doug served as a Bushkill Township police officer. His distinguished service in law enforcement also included a 20-year-career with the Easton police force. Additionally, Doug was a lifelong firefighter, serving Bushkill Township in recent years. Fishing, hunting, paintball, and watching a good movie with his family were among his favorite pastimes, and he enjoyed spending time with his son at The Heritage Guild Shooting Range. Doug simply cherished the wonderful memories of time spent with his family.
He was a member of Faith Family Fellowship Church, Bushkill Center.
Doug's unwavering commitment to serving his community is a wonderful legacy and true testament to his passion in helping others.
Survivors: In addition to his loving wife, Tracy, he will be dearly missed by his children, Douglas H. Schlegel, Jr. of Bath, Gavin B. Schlegel of Camp Lajeune, North Carolina, and Peyton O. Schlegel of Paris Island, South Carolina; sister, Sarah Schlegel-Manahan and husband, Bryan, of Asylum Township, PA; along with nieces and nephews.
Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. in the GEORGE G. BENSING FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2165 Community Drive, Route 946, in the Village of Moorestown - Bath, PA 18014. Friends and Relatives are invited to call on Friday afternoon from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. to 12 Noon in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
